Will doomsday really occur in the year 2012?

No, it won’t. None of the claims by the doomsday prophets are based on science, just wild speculation. The people writing the books aren't scientists and are just trying to make money. No. This scam about the world ending in 2012 isn't true. It's all just a silly hoax. It maybe true that that mayan calendar ends but, it doesn't mean the world is going to end. One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world. The Mayan Calendar has to end sometime. Besides, nobody can't predict when the end of the world is. You shouldn't always believe what you hear from other people. The scientific evidence about 2012 doesn't go together. Those who spread rumors about 2012 should be punished. It is widely believed as a prediction of nostradamus, and is given credibility that his prediction coincides with the calendar of a then completely unknown civilization. The Mayan calender follows two types, the short count, and the long count. At the end of each long count, the civilization was meant to end and rebuild. The end of the last written long count calendar is December 21, 2012, which matches Nostradamus' vaguely interpreted quatrain concerning the end of the world. Referring to the epic flood of Noah, the world "as they knew it" was destroyed. I doubt that God flooded the entire earth. The end of the world "As we know it" may merely mean that what we know of to be the way the world works, will no longer apply. Take a look at the situation of the character in "I Am Legend". Not gone or dead, but forced to live in an entirely different manner regarding survival. While the book of Revelations gives no preset of time of when the world will end, it does speak of metaphorical representations of what will occur at the so called "end of time".

The media and television programs about 12/21/2012 are only trying to cash in on all of the hype and make a quick profit with 12/21/2012 fast approaching. Religious and moral differences world-wide are causing conflicting belief systems about the planets future. There is however one interesting astronomical phenomenon that will happen on 12/21/2012 when the sun rises on that day, as seen from Central America, it will be in the direction of Sagittarius in the exact center of the galaxy. Unless someone can accurately predict the future, we would have to wait and see. I was told that WW3 would be in 2008 and it didn't happen. It doesn't mean 2012 won't happen, but we won't know until it comes.
