Why are there distant winds that seem far away, yet it is peaceful here?

I don't understand prevailing winds. Help?

  • Can someone please explain to me the prevailing winds, along with convection, the Coriolis effect, as well as the Prevailing Westerlies. I am really confused and I can't seem to find any good information about this on the internet.

  • Answer:

Hmm, ill try. The coriolis effect is when, you have the planet spinning. And the planet spins more at its equator because it has a larger surface area, and covers a larger distance there. And so wind direction is manipulated by the direction that the planet spins and how much it spins. With convection, warm air rises over dense cold air. So when gases are heated, they rise up, get cold and sink down. Convection has a lot to do with storms n such. When you have a warm front moving over a cold front you have storms because warm moist water vapor rises up over the cold, then as it gets cold it condenses and the moisture falls down as precipitation. prevailing winds and westerlies i think are just winds caused by the latter among other things.
