What is Developmental Sequence?

What might the presence of layers D-E in an upper sequence indicate about a Bouma sequence?

• In this rock I am looking at in my lab, it has layers A-E, the a break and D-E layers. What would this D-E sequence indicate about the relative position of this sequence (distal vs. proximal) as compared to the lower sequence A-B-C-D-E? Thanks!!
