Based on recent events, when do you think the end of the world will come?
-
Recently, in the past 5-7 years, there have been many natural and unatural devastating events. Plus, there are some astronomical events occuring now. Some of these natural devastating events include: Hurricane Katrina, Tsunamies, and powerful earthquakes. Scientists are even predicting that Yellow Stone National Park's Volcano will explode. They said the volcano is still active and we're long over due for the next eruption. They also said the eruption will cause the next ice-age. An unatrual event that occured last year, was the nuclear melt down in Japan. The recent astronomical events include the solar storm, which scientists are saying will be catastrophic. Im 18 years old. So please don't tell me not to worry. I'm still young and I want to experience a real life. I may not be missing much if the world ends, but still... There is still so much more time for me, unless... you know...

Answer:
>> Recently, in the past 5-7 years, there have been many natural and unatural devastating events. Or, maybe you've just been noticing them more. >> Plus, there are some astronomical events occuring now. None that are particularly unique. None that are threatening. >> Some of these natural devastating events include: Hurricane Katrina, Tsunamies, and powerful earthquakes. Like the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964? The 1960 Valdivia Earthquake? Those were the two strongest ever recorded. How about the Mt. Tambora Eruption of 1815? >> Scientists are even predicting that Yellow Stone National Park's Volcano will explode. Actually, you'll find that all of the folks making that prediction are not scientists. Indeed, you'll be hard-pressed to find a single geologist who figures a caldera-forming eruption at Yellowstone is at all likely. >> An unatrual event that occured last year, was the nuclear melt down in Japan. And? >> The recent astronomical events include the solar storm, which scientists are saying will be catastrophic. Again, it's NON-scientists who are saying it will be catastrophic. Bear in mind that solar storms happen all the time. >> Im 18 years old. So please don't tell me not to worry. I'm going to tell you to be scientifically literate. That way, you won't have to worry, because you'll be able to see through such transparent hoaxes as this one. Also, when you find yourself thinking 'scientists say', you might want to stop and check if any of them actually do. Oh. Right. you wanted a figure... ~5 billion years. Uninhabitable in ~1.4 billion due to increasing solar output.

Based on recent events, I think the world will end in about 5 billion years when the sun expands into a Red Giant and consumes the three inner planets. Go hide under your momma's skirt. Let real men carry on with everyday life. ,

As only US fifth graders believe in the doomsday hoax, I would have to express a great deal of doubt as to your claim to be 18, unless you are REALLY overdue to move on. Obviously, though, you do have a severe problem with being egocentric. Just because a hurricane happened when YOU remember it, it MUST BE far worse than any other previously. Also, you have a problem with the truth. Shame on you. NO scientists are claiming that Yellowstone is "overdue". We have had plenty of magmatic and explosive hydrothermal eruptions there in the past not to worry overly, unless you are in the fifth grade, of course, about any super-eruptions. Again you play fast and loose with the truth regarding solar flares. NO scientists are claiming we will have catastrophic effects from any solar flare, especially not next years maximum. "So please don't tell me not to worry." Don't tell me what to tell you. Don't worry. Next year, you will begin to discover girls and you will forget about doomsday. http://www.2012hoax.org

1. In a few thousand million years the sun will become a red giant and expand past the orbit of the earth. I reckon that will do it. In the meantime, I suggest enrolling in a critical thinking course and not listening to the religious nuts. http://www.criticalthinking.org/ http://www.chem1.com/acad/sci/pseudosci.html 2. The power plant problem in Japan was not a disaster. The tsunami, which killed over 10,000 people was. Not one person has been injured due to radiation from the power plant problem, nor is anyone expected to be. If anything, the situation shows how safe nuclear power is. Consider that forty year old plants were hit with an earthquake five times the strength they were designed for and yet they still shut down safely. The generators came on like they were supposed to when grid power was cut. Then the tsunami hit and the generators were wiped out. However, the battery backup still worked for the designed eight hours. The problem happened when no new generators could be put in. Even so the problems have been minimal--media scare mongering for ratings not withstanding. Please study the science rather than getting information from sci-fi B movies. Here is an informative article describing the situation: http://bravenewclimate.com/2011/03/13/fukushima-simple-explanation/ And here is where you find factual status information: http://www.iaea.org/newscenter/news/2011/fukushimafull.html And a slide presentation that describes the effects: http://www.slideshare.net/iaea/radiological-monitoring-and-consequences-of-fukushima-nuclear-accident-2-june-2011 And here is a chart that helps make sense of the numbers: http://www.xkcd.com/radiation/
