Where do all cold and warm ocean currents originate?

Surface currents + warm currents = cold currents and deep ocean currents?

  • I'm wondering whether: surface currents and warm currents and cold currents and deep ocean currents are the same thing.

  • Answer:

No. There are both warm and cold surface currents. Deep water is formed from surface water because it is denser. This higher density can be due to the water becoming colder, saltier, or both.
