Geology is the study of rocks and rock strata. Geography is the study of the lay of the land on a much larger scope with no science involved.

geology is the study of the Earth, and more specifically how the mechanics of it work, such as rocks, volcanoes, plate tectonics, etc. Geography is more the study of how position on the Earth affects climate, soil, environment, life forms, etc. For example, how being in the Arctic Circle affects the climate and therefore the soil type and also the animals that live there. It is also used in reference to learning of countries and capitals and whatnot.

Geology: The study of the planet earth and other planets, and the materials of which they are made, the products of those materials, and the history of the planet and its life forms since its origin. Geography: The study of all aspects of the earth surface, including natural and political subdivisions, distribution and differentiation of areas by both natural and political processes, and man's relationship to the environment. Geologists often study only rocks and the larger process that make rocks and drive plate tectonics. There are many subdivisions of geology as it includes aspects of all other natural sciences, including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and geography. Myself as a geologist I study rocks deep in the earth looking for petroleum. Geographers study the earth and other planets and may focus on natural features, or on manmade features of the planet. Geographers can also study biologic, chemical, mathematical, and geologic subjects. I have a friend who is a medical geographer, who studies the medical effects of chemical contaminants on both local communities and larger national populations. Geography is science and anyone who thinks it is not doesn't understand geography or science!

I teach Geography and Geology and in Geography we cover ecosystems and how they change, water and its interaction with land (coasts and rivers), weather, tectonic influence on the Earth, resource management, population patterns and changes, settlement structure and industrial location and change. In Geology we cover Fossils, Earth history and structure, resource development, mineral formation, rock type and structure and recent change on a Geological time scale Hope this helps
