How will more carbon dioxide affect the rate of photosynthesis?

Increase CO2 in atmosphere = ? in rate in photosynthesis?

  • Hypothetically, if there was an increase in of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) in the atmosphere, would the rate of photosynthesis of plants increase, decrease, or stay the same? Does the amount of CO2 even affect the rate of photosynthesis?

  • Answer:

The amount of co2 doesn't really affect the rate of photosynthesis. If that were the case, we should remain relatively balanced in terms of the carbon budget, which is obviously not the case, hence global warming. There are many other things that do affect the rate at which plants intake atmospheric carbon (co2) such as whether the plant is in an environment that is humid, dry, hot, windy, cold, etc...these factors determine the amount of time the plant's stomata are open and able to uptake co2. hope this helps!

so you are saying if the earth warms up more plants will grow and the more it rains from the earth warming up will water the plants keeping them growing more and more and soon the Co2 level will be lowered. the earth will cool down and freeze over.
