What are humans created from?

What is the worst impact to the environment that humans have created.?

  • I have an assignment on a bad human impact on the environment. I need some ideas of what to pick.

  • Answer:

I like some of the earlier answers, like meat, cars, plastic and atom bombs, and these four certainly deserve consideration, but after much thought I give 1st prize to the Steam Engine and its nasty younger brother the Internal Combustion Engine. If man hadn't developed the steam engine there would have been no industrial revolution, no sweatshop factories, no population explosions, and no steam ships and transcontinental railroads to swallow up the world's timber and coal. The steam engine wouldn't have spawned the internal combustion, so there would be no oil wells and oil spills, and everyone would be riding bicycles and horses instead of cars and airplanes. There would have been no power stations and so there would have been no electricity for factories, and no electric pylons, and everyone would light their houses with oil and gas lamps. Electricity for TV sets, refrigerators, and the internet would come from windmills, watermills, and solar cells. There would be far fewer wars because it would take ages for armies and supplies to get from one place to another, and everyone would have longer summer holidays because it would take lots longer to get there and back again in a sailing ship, or a pony and trap.

Medical advances have led to over population because the death rate has decreased? We have developed to the stage where our technological advances have overtaken our ability to think strategically about our long term survival? Just from the top of my head.

Why not chernobyl or Hiroshima, they're not completely the biggest but they're both really bad. Or there's the Valdez spill. Or the time we polluted the Potomac river so bad it lit on fire

Undermining the mycelial web of the forests with poisons, deforestation and acid rain, thus impeding a recirculation of energies through and to the forests. Dying forests is the same as dying world. Forests rely on mycelia to live. They are the filters and the indicators of the state of forests health. When we lose the filters we lose the quality of water and the plankton content of the oceans. This I believe to be one of the worst impacts of humans activity on our ecosystems.

in a philosophical sense, being greedy and being irresponsible to the environment; but since you're in the earth science and geology section, i would say abuse of fossil fuels- that includes petroleum products (like gasoline) and coal. burning these fossil fuels contribute to global warming and destruction of our ecosystem.

I heard eating meat is one of the worst ones, most green house gasses produced, it take like 100 times more energy to produces a steak then same equivalent in vegan food. Cattle destroy grass lands, promote spread of desert, and so on.

I think that cars/vehicles are one of the biggest negative impacts to the environment. Not only do they pollute the air, countryside has to get torn up so more roads can be built.

nuclear power plants, clear cut tree cutting, endless land fills, not treating sewage water but just dump it in lakes, oceans, etc.
