What is cloud burst and land slide?
-
if anybody can tell me about cloud burst and land slides in uttranchal, india.
-
Answer:
A "cloudburst" is a heavy rain storm that starts very suddenly as if the rain were bursting out of the clouds. A landslide is when a lot of soil or rocks on the side of a steep hill or mountain slide down all at once and cover whatever is at the bottom of the hill. Usually this happens during an earthquake or after a heavy rain that turns the soil to mud. Uttranchal is a mountainous region with many steep slopes, in which the soil is often moist due to heavy rains and melting of the local glaciers. The area is also seismically active (has a lot of earthquakes) No wonder landslides are such a serious problem in Uttranchal!
