Whether it is possible or not has never been in question. 30 years ago, when I was almost a teen, I thought about how it would be done. You split the hydrogen and oxygen, burn the hydrogen in the oxygen and the byproducts is water... Hmmm... sounds great, doesn't it? But... the question is how much does it cost to produce this - aka, is it cost efficient? As much as we all like to think we would all jump on the best thing to replace Oil dependence, ask them if they are willing to triple the price of their cars to do it... and then see how quickly the line forms... or doesn't. Sad but true eh?

In school we watched a video about fuel cell cars where (if i remember correctly) you combine oxygen and hydrogen to power the car, and you end up making water. Then we did the opposite and powered a mini car by splitting up water. I don't remember the video name, sorry.

what, how is this done id like an answer. frankly i didn't know this. if you heat water it becomes steam. how much would it cost to heat water.

i havent researched this or anything so i could be wrong, but i read about it a while ago and i believe this is how it works. two copper probes are put into a volume of water, an electric current is passed between the two probes. the current seperates the oxygen atoms from the hydrogen molecules at the terminals and hydrogen gas is released. this hydrogen gas is then used in a way that it combusts and releases energy. That's it I think!
