What is red tide?

Dead fish a few days ago and red tide?

  • OK so I just found out on here that the ocean outside my window is glowing green bc of red tide. I know that this can also kill fish. A few days ago before the glowing tide. a whole lot of fish were jumping out of the water and seemed scared. I took it as "there are sharks in there and I'm not swimming" well later on in the evening there were thousands of dead fishes on the beach. Some had bite marks in them most not. And I mean BITE marks.. not pecks from sea birds. So.... silly me just thought the sharks scared the crap out of the fish and that's why they were dead. Now I go out and see the tide is glowing green. This place gets weirder by the minute! ANYWAY... are the two related (I'm assuming so) and is it OK to go swimming? I am guessing whatever did that to those fish be it shark or algae bloom can't be good for me either.

  • Answer:

I dont think you should go swimming in it until you have better informatio as to what is causing it to be green. Is this a joke ?

It's perfectly safe... I recommend drinking it, too...it's all water afterall, a little salty maybe, but it won't hurt, and the sharks won't bite you...you scare them more than they scare you...
