Why is K+ larger than Ca^2+?

Are there any factories converting Ca to Ca2+ or is mining involved in the conversion of Ca to Ca2+?

  • Ca means calcium. Ca2+ means calcium ions.

  • Answer:

Not really. Calcium does not occur free in nature, it is always bound in compounds. Calcium metal is reactive and will react spontaneously with a large number of oxidising agents, so factories are not necessary. Calcium is extracted from ores that already contain calcium ions. In reality, the calcium ions have to be converted to calcium to obtain the metal, not the other way around.
