After 150 Years of Industrialization, Climate Change is Inevitable The “greenhouse effect” often gets a bad rap because of its association with global warming, but the truth is we couldn’t live without it. What Causes the Greenhouse Effect? Life on earth depends on energy from the sun. About 30 percent of the sunlight that beams toward Earth is deflected by the outer atmosphere and scattered back into space. The rest reaches the planet’s surface and is reflected upward again as a type of slow-moving energy called infrared radiation. As infrared radiation is carried aloft by air currents, it is absorbed by “greenhouse gases” such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, ozone and methane, which slows its escape from the atmosphere. Although greenhouse gases make up only about 1 percent of the Earth’s atmosphere, they regulate our climate by trapping heat and holding it in a kind of warm-air blanket that surrounds the planet.

Easy you know that if you put your hand under the sun light, your hand will warmer, now think that instead of your hand you put a small gaces particles, like CO, SO2, PM, NOx, O3 (my favourite) etc. And now if after retire your hand from the sunligth, you put your hand over the other hand, this other hand will share the warm and will be a little warmer, now think that instead other hand, you have the air that every one brathes every day. I think that is easy visualise this in that way. The sunlight that enters in our planet is absorver by the plants and other part is repelled to the space, but the green house gaces can keep this warm and rise the temperature of the atmósphere. Well is good you may tellme after all i have a better winter, but the problem is that our planet is in a cicle in that the ice ages acurr many several centuries, is a cicle in that the atmosphere rise his temperature slowly many degrees each 10 years, but the greenhouse gaces help to raise this temp many times faster and of course cause a ice age faster. and well many animas and vegetals are adapted to a temp, and if you rises this temp o fast you will cause an unvalance and a ecological chaos.
