What happened, geologically, 5125 years ago that marked the end/beginning of one of the worlds of the Mayans?

Don't believe everything you read. In the Mayan times, according to one documentary, most of their bizarre-looking alphabet and writings were all about the current rulers. It was the age of Pharaohs.--God-Men. Their calendars probably had to do with changes of dynasties rather than geologic events.

I've read that the best theory is deforestation, erosion, loss of cropland, so that all it took is one big weather problem (drought, flood?) and their food chain collapsed.
