• how do u find domain and range without making table of values and without graphing the equation. please explain it as clearly as possible because my teachers is the worst when it comes to explaining. ex how do u find domain and range of y= -1/2x or y=√(x+3)-1 or y= -√(x+2)-2

  domain basically means: find the range of x so that whatever numbers we plug in for x, we can find y. as you can see, the x is in the square root. Remember that anything in the square root must be a positive number(>0). so set everything in the root greater than 0: x + 3 > 0 solve for x: so the domain is: x > or equal to -3 range means: what values can y be with respect to domain of x? to find the range, you have to plug in the highest and lowest number for y by plugging in the lowest and highest number for x in the equation: when x = -3 , then y = -1 when x = infinity, then y = infinity therefore, range is from -1 to infinity
