Why do or dont you think time travel is possible?

  • I beleive it is possible. Forget the paradoxes just the concept of time travel being possible When we look at stars in the sky we are looking at how they looked hundreds if not millions of years ago so basically when you look at stars your looking back in time no stars you see are there in the present. The sun we see is 8 mins late (how the sun looked 8 mins ago) I beleive the past present and future are all here in the universe ie your ancestors are still alive somewhere while your not born descendants are also living elsewhere in the Universe Light is slow but the fastest you can travel I beleive we will time travel another way as it is practically impossible to reach that speed. Spacetime is a dimension which goes by at different speed depending on your conditions ie time goes faster on Earth than in the vacuum of space The dilation of time is dependent on the velocity the moving person is going. The closer to the speed of light, the more time is dilated hence the faster you move the slower you go through time. Not only do clocks slow down or speed up but you heartbeat, aging your perception everything also so a twin who goes into the vacuum of space while the other stays on Earth when the other returns after 50 years he'll even look considerably younger than the one which stayed on Earth. Tho the twin which stayed on Earth his sibling time traveled to the future. Black holes clearly show time travel to the past as objects and sapce around it is traveling faster than light you cant see anything hence black. Who knows those objects could be projected back into the beginning of our universe adding to the big bang. I beleive time travel is possible but for a human to do will be hard to figure out or will simply for ever be impossble

    time is a man-made tool we use to count motion through space, a unit of time is actually a unit of motion eg a year is one cycle of the earth about the sun when you look at the sun you are seeing it 8 minutes ago because the light that left the star 8 minutes ago is only just arriving now, the events which caused the light to be emitted have already occurred to make time go backwards you must make all motions of the universe go backwards, impossible if you travel close to the speed of light then your clock will cycle slower relative to the earths clock because of space contraction, which is sort of like going forwards in time, but in doing so you miss out on experiencing everything that happened in between and then you can't go back since clocks always move in the one direction in my opinion time travel fits into the same category as the tooth fairy, jesus, santa, allah and the flying pink unicorn, but if it makes you happy then go for it .,.,.

If time travel were possible in the future then I'm sure people would *come back* to visit us in the present. As I see no *time tourists*I can be quite certain that it will never be possible. I hope you get what I mean.

HELLO =] lol, in order to go into the past we'd have to travel faster than the speed of light (faster you go, the slower time goes, this was tested by having twoidentical watches, one on the ground, one traveling around the world in a rocket) or, go into a black hole but death is more likely in that situation

Personally, I think you can answer the possibility of time travel in common sense terms rather than mathematical. If time travel can exist (as in the H.G. Wells type), then someone has already invented it. If it was invented, infinite numbers of people have access to it. If infinite numbers of people have access to it, someone would have killed us by now and we'd not be asking that question. OR, human civilization goes extinct before it is invented. Either way, it can't happen. PS, looking at a star's light that's thousands of years old is like seeing the past, but it's no different than looking at a photograph. It's a captured image of an event that has already taken place and what remains of it in the now. You can't jump into a photo!

although you are correct about seeing back in time, this is a one way phenomenon, and as such we cannot see into the future this way. We may be able to develop a method of seeing into the past, but i dont think we would be able to go there, and if we did, we couldnt get back.

Yes, that is why people think wormholes, or infinitely large spirals may rocket us into time travel, but technically, we are time travelling... forwards. Time travel is also edging closer to the meaning of life, it might be something that is not meant to be discovered..., now teleportation, that would also be a fun thing to think about

You muster strong arguments as to why the concept of time is complex. However, time travel must be either continuous (like playing a film forwards or backwards or discrete (like removing one VHS tape now and replacing it with a new tape long ago are far in the future). If time travel is continuous then the electrons orbiting atoms and molecules must speed up to reach the future or reverse to reach the past. If time travel is discrete then a mass must be removed from now and deposited into the future or the past displacing matter already there. It is easier to believe that time travel is possible than to explain how it is possible using laws of physics as we currently know them. When we see a star that may no longer even exist we are observing its past record written using photons. When one twin travels nearly at the speed of light time is distorted but never reversed.

The past is gone. The future is assembled from the present and is virtually a perfect reconstruction and the assembly must be repeated every thirty billionths of a second from the assembled assembly.maybe the chore would be too complicated and time consuming. Forget about the black hole it is a non viable entity.
