The Theory of a Flat Universe?

How do you feel about the Universe within a Universe Theory as a way for explaining everything that is...?

  • How do you feel about the Universe within a Universe Theory as a way for explainning everything that is, was, and ever will be? Science has shown us a universe within and beyond each and every form of physical existence. Religion comes in so many forms that offer idealistic universal goals for its followers for the life we lead and for our life after death. I see in them simply the opportunity to exist within another universe created by mind or body or soul. Some people like to think that we must have been created for things to be the way they are: so complicated and perfect like the molecular structure of a dimond. In almost any instance I can see a conscious and unconscious creative force at work. We don't always know what will come of our choices even though we can work towards a conscious outcome. Still curious ... we know the body does not live-on without the mind, but does the mind exist without the body? That is a universe I would like to visit. A universe without barriers...

  • Answer:

"A universe within a universe within a universe..." is a lot more complicated than "a universe." Occam's razor encourages us to stick with the simpler explanation until it does not work anymore. The simpler explanation is still working. Occam's razor does not guarantee that the simpler explanation is automatically correct, simply that it can explain everything in a more useful manner. An infinite universe by itself is already without barriers, and it does explain everything we need to explain.

Our universe supposedly stated out the size of an atom. It is hard to not imagine that it was surrounded by something even though it might not have the same dimensions and physical laws. It boggles the mind trying to imagine a universe of hundreds of billions of galaxies being squeezed into something that small. I am comfortable in the realization that we don't really have a clue what exists beyond our universe. It is easier for us to imagine multiple universes when ours occupied the volume of an atom but perhaps whatever contains our galaxy has no limits or maybe we exist in some laboratory where time doesn't pass so quickly and our entire existence of 13 billion years only represents a week for the creator.

This sounds like the new religion, based on science... not really sure what your getting at but have heard something about this, but I think it was from Men in Black, the will smith flick. Anyway, seems like some thing that could be possible if I really try to imagine the extremes of the universe that we know. Had you got me in a more thoughtful mood I could have contributed more...but im a bit pissed so will just remind you that at one time man thought that the earth was flat and the sun revolved round us....science has come so far but what has it yet to discover

science has shown us a universe within and beyond each form of physical existence? What science books are you reading?

First of all religion has NOTHING to say about the physical universe or science that is reliable. So forget about that. Secondly, to be a science you have to be able to verify something. How would you verify the existence of a universe that contained our universe? There is no way. So it is not science and definitely not a Theory. Just a curious fantasy. A Theory is a generally accepted explanation of how things are the way they are or how they behave the way they do. It has to have been tested and passed a verification process. So you don't have a Theory. What you have is a hypothesis, but it is not a testable hypothesis, so not science. If you want to do science you have to leave the fantasies behind and get a good education grounded on experience. Science does NOT show us a universe "beyond each and every form of physical existence". Science has never found any evidence for a soul or life after death, the ultimate oxymoron. If you want to do fantasy, and there are plenty of people who don't want to do anything but fantasy, you will not be doing science. Hope you don't think my answer is too harsh but someone is confusing the beegeebers out of you about science and religion.
