Can I clean my convertible top with resolve?

Can optical and radio telescopes resolve two objects?

  • say you have a radio telescope that is barely able to resolve and object and you have an optical telescope of equal diameter, will the optical telescope be able to resolve the two objects? [will it just resolve? will it be clear? or will it be able to resolve at all?] Thanks all, much appreciated. I will chose the best answer

  • Answer:

The diffraction limit of a telescope is proportional to the ratio of wavelength to aperture, so for a given aperture, resolution is better at shorter wavelengths. Since radio waves are many orders of magnitude longer than light waves, the optical telescope will have much greater resolving power than the radio telescope.
