Difficulties in my career choices?
-
My dream is to be an Astrophysicist, maybe even an Astrologist. Cosmologist even. Careers that have to do with the cosmos and Space itself. This fascinates me. I don't want to actually be the engineers making the ships or technologies. Rather, the scientist making the new discoveries and testing the new theories. Maybe even write a book on my new findings, heck who knows? But, before those choices i want to thoroughly study the brain and by that i would have to become a neurologist. I like studying the brain, how it works, functions, consciousness, emotions in the brain, logical and critical thinking in the brain etc. I would eventually want to develop cures for mental illnesses in the brain. Biggest goal in this medical field would have to be discovering, treating, and releasing a cure for brain cancer and tumors freely upon every single hospital. I would do it out of my own pocket if i have to. I also tend to have very philosophical and ''deep'' views on life. I believe in the complete and utter advancement in the human race. I also am not afraid of being proved wrong in any way, which means i am not afraid in changing my views on life, i only want to get to the absolute and certain truth. I have many philosophical books, ideas, morals, and aphorisms on epistemology, determinism, free will, and ontology. I have changed from belief to belief, you name it, i've believed in it. Not going to go into that subject right now. So down to the root inquiry, i would want you Y/A users to give me your opinions on these career choices. Is there any way to be both of these careers? I have the potential, focus, and determination to stay in school till my mid-30's to 40's. I am in no hurry to have children. Remember i don't take anything at face value, i stride to the absolute truth and nothing less. Would it be wise to stick to only one of these career choices or is it possible to be a neurologist till about the age of 30-40 and stick to becoming a scientist/astrophysicist? All answers are welcomed, thanks.

Answer:
Study mathematics, you'll find the answers to all of nature there and it will form an endless base to diversify into diverse fields as you evolve. But focus profoundly on that which you want to accomplish, don't scatter yourself.

"an Astrophysicist, maybe even an Astrologist" I dont think these two would mix well. And I think you only have enough time to master one of the disciplines, may be two. Any more you wont have time for anything else.

you can do it all, just take it one step at a time. Do which everyone thats floats your boat first and then move on from there :)

It is reassuring to know that you aren't yet embarked on either career. Please do neither. We need fewer people, not more, dedicated to finding the "absolute truth" as scientists. That desire is FUNDAMENTALLY an anathema to the Scientific Principles. I suggest religion will best meet your absolutist desires. Better, since you indicate that you are rich beyond measure, fund a neurological institute. Start off with say, $100,000,000 endowment and perhaps a $50,000,000 per year gift. No matter how brilliant you are, you imply that you can afford to hire the best, so do it. Although typically those who do are not usually those who philosophize. "You name it, I've believed in it" is NOT something to be proud of. It simply indicates a lack of focus and inability to filter. Not a positive indication of high analytical ability. But, hey, good luck! Even intellectual fascists can make significant contributions to science without actually believing in the principles of science.
