What is IMAX?

What is an imax movie?

  • I'm 14 and I know that probably sounds dumb but I've never been to one and we're going to see the hunger games tomorrow. And all the theaters where I live at least only have it playing in imax. It's not like 3D or anything.. right? I hate 3d movies ever since I got kind of freaked out by one when I was little. Yeah I know it's stupid but I hate them and I just want to make sure this isn't gonna be like that.. Thanks!

  • Answer:

IMAX is a motion picture film format and a set of proprietary cinema projection standards created by the Canadian company IMAX Corporation. IMAX has the capacity to record and display images of far greater size and resolution than conventional film systems. Since 2002, some feature films have been upconverted into IMAX format for display in IMAX theatres and some have also been partially shot in IMAX. A comparison between 35 mm and 15/70 mm negative areas IMAX is the most widely used system for special-venue film presentations. As of September 2011, there were 583 IMAX theatres in 48 countries. It is just another way of saying a jumbo 3-D screen

IMAX is a much larger screen than a regular theater. Originally IMAX movies were filmed with a special film that had much larger frames than 35 millimeter. IMAX movies can be 3D but they don't have to be. As far as I know Hunger Games is not in 3D.
