1) 1 Litre of Tears ... that's the only story from Japan that i really concern to rate for this question... (psssst : is it drama or movies? but, this is the only story from Japan that fit for your asking that swinging in my mind = P ) hehe~

Lots of Kurosawa movies.My favourites are Throne of Blood (an adaptation of MacBeth) and Yojimbo. Other good ones are Rashomon, Seven Samurai and Sanjuro. Others: Hana-bi (Fireworks) by Beat Takeshi The Blind Swordsman Zatoichi also by Takeshi Battle Royale (twisted, bloody insanity) Spirited Away Audition Ju-On (The Grudge) Audition BQ: Tony Leung or Toshiro Mifune BQ2: Tied between Akira Kurosawa and Beat Takeshi BQ2: I lived in Asia for over a year

I can only think of about 5 Japanese movies that I've seen, and they were all directed by Miyazaki. From favorite to least favorite (favorite being amazing and least favorite still great): Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Princess Mononoke Howl's Moving Castle Spirited Away My Neighbor Totoro BQ3: India, Nepal and Thailand, but I would love to go to Japan some day.

first: japanese movies suck second: they are all in a stupid language (japanese) third: if they aren't in japanese then they were dubbed in which case they are even worse save yourself the hassle and watch good ol' american movies
