How do you become an extra on tv/film?

How Can I become an Extra in a movie, such as "catching Fire" ?

  • hey! I dont have much acting experience at all, aside from plays. but i was wondering how one becomes an extra in a big movie such as the second hunger games movie, catching fire. Im willing to sign with agencies in order to become an extra in this movie, and im close enough to where the movie is being filmed that location won't be a problem at all! Since there normally aren't big movies filmed in my area, this is really my only big shot. anyone have any good advice for becoming an extra in catching fire, and maybe even getting an auditino for someone like Delly in Mockingjay? Thanks so much<3

    As far as I know, filming hasn't started for Catching Fire at all and it's still in 'in development' phase. It depends on where the film is being shot and how close you live to it. My Dad does a lot of extra work - you can see him in 'I am No. 4' as the executioner when they go on the haunted hayride - and that's how he got that part. It just happened to be filming near my hometown. Check Craigslist for ads for extra work and Backstage always has ads for extra work (link attached). Sometimes they pay, sometimes they don't. It depends on the movie. You can also see if there are agencies in your town that work with casting. Good luck.

A real extra isn't going to be represented. That's more an uncredited person. A real extra is just someone off the streets, and in that case they usually have a casting type thing. As to how you get lucky enough to be one they pick, you simply get lucky. They can only take so many, and usually they are the people who are just in a big crowd scene.
