Why aren't there any good artist like Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson?
-
I'm a big Michael Jackson fan, mainly because of what he stood for. I'm not thee biggest Whitney Houston fan but I have always considered her one of my favorite singers, I love her voice. Today music is all about competition. It's always been competitive but it's most obvious today. Everyone wants to be the King, Queen, Prince, and Princess of something, they are no longer humble about earning a title. And like Whitney and Michael, they don't embrace everyone. I noticed that Whitney and Michael could make a song, and have cameos by other artist in the video or song. These days, everyone wants to intimidate eachother with whatever talent that they have. I love me some Beyonce but I feel as talented as she is, she doesn't connect well with others. She's probably the biggest talent out today, and I just wish she could influence like the REAL LEGENDS. I'm not saying she needs to go out and make a big "We Are The World" type of video but it would be nice to see her show that she's more than just someone who's aiming for the top spot. Mariah and Whitney have two of the greatest voices, and you saw them do a song together. Beyonce worked with Lady Gaga, and I feel that that was only for the purposes of bringing attention to eachother. I feel like the personality and talent of the past is only once in a life time. Even though they were troubled, Whitney and Michael had these different kind of spirits. And their talent excelled all others. Whitney Houston "I'm Every Woman": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7_sqdkaAfo She featured TLC (now Legends) who were new comers, and Chaka Khan, who this song belonged to. And she showed all of these beautiful women off. Michael, as we all know, made his come together songs too. Where is that in todays artist?

Answer:
Most all of today's music artists, wouldn't have even been noticed back when MJ and Whitney Houston were at their peak. It took true talent and hard work in those days to even get noticed in the music industry. Today's average Joe's, have hit records at the drop of a hat, and with autotune and top notch equipment, it is possible. They didn't have all those things way back when music was ''great'' and the music industry and fans had MUCH higher expectations/standards than they do today..So the music artists HAD to be truly talented to make it back in those days. These days fans settle for less, or just fight to adapt. Im not saying that all music artists today are bad, but many of them are, they cannot compare to the older music artists. This goes for all music genres. The songs of today don't have the heart and soul in them, and many of them sound alike.I've always been a music lover, but I can't listen to any of today's music. I believe the music artists of the past respected each others music more also, so they were honored if they were asked to perform with another music artist, they appreciated each others music more.Music was more appreciated in the past imo... maybe because we didn't have the internet, and we had to wait for it to get to the music stores to buy it. Just going to a music store in the 80s and holding the album in your hands.. you couldn't wait to get home and put in on the record player, or in the cassette player.. it seemed to make people appreciate music more.. also there was no such thing as going on youtube to become famous. The harder people have to work for things, the better it is.. and it is so much more appreciated. I believe that is alot of the difference between today's music, and yesterday's music. I agree, today it's all about competition, it's like a contest, it's also more about looks, than it is talent.(not that MJ and Whitney Houston weren't good looking, lol :)

You don't need to work with other artists to be good, it might make a good song, but more often than not will end with legal clashes. But I agree that songs don't give important messages anymore, not mainstream artists anyway. If your looking for musicians that sing about important issues try some system of a down. They sing about important issues like drugs, the Aremenian genocide, science and religion and conscription. Heavy stuff indeed.
