What is the difference between TOEFL and IELTS exams?

Are 13 yr old allowed to appear for exams like TOEFL,IELTS?

  • Actually I AM an indian. i am 13 yr old and i am to think of my future career. i want to become an engineer and want to go abroad for studies such as United States Of America. Please tell me that am i allowed to enter in the examination of TOEFL or IELTS for future career in this age and what would be the requirements for that? Please Reply As Soon as Possible Thank YOu

    TOEFL: Yes. IELTS: Yes. But note: the British Council says, "IELTS is not recommended for candidates under the age of 16." Younger students--even those who possess superb English skills--may have difficulty on these tests simply because they are not mature enough to understand the content. The reason for taking the TOEFL is because it is required for admission in US universities. Unless you are applying to a university you are too young to take it as you will probably have to retake it when you are old enough to apply.

IELTS - No. You've gotta wait 'til you're sixteen (that's what I had to do back then). TOEFL - Yes, but by the time you're fifteen you'll already be deleted from the database and the score will be no longer valid. Given the circumstances, Cambridge certificates are the best option as they're valid for life.
