I am a straight A student. I play basketball, run track, I am also a dancer and an okay gymnast I sing in choir and take spanish. All of my standardized test are excellent and I will be taking the ssat next year. I am applying for my tenth grade year. I am involved in sisters in service junior beta club, fbla, and other activities. Do you think i have what it takes if so what is andover like? people tell me it is only for the rich and snobby is this true also what is dorm life like and the weekend also is it very challenging i love a challenge and that is something my high school does not offer.

Answer:
First of all, don't listen to what "people" tell you, UNLESS they have gone there, lived there, and studied there. They have no clue what the experience is really like. I personally have not attended Andover, but I can tell you that it is an excellent school. I also recommend applying to the other schools on the Ten Schools Organization. The best two are Phillips Academy Andover and Phillips Exeter Academy (rivals!). Other great schools include Hotchkiss, Taft, Milton, Groton, St. Pauls, and Deerfield. Generally, Andover, Taft, Groton, and St. Pauls do have the "reputation" as admitting wealthier students. However, this is completely word of mouth. What I do know from experience, is the following: Phillips Exeter Academy is more academically oriented than Andover - Andover is often stronger in athletics. Milton has the least homework load. Hotchkiss has extremely strong athletics, and a great music department. Groton and St. Pauls have very unique traditions. *** I suggest applying. If and when you are accepted to schools, you will be invited to visit. You will get a feel for each school, including the challenge and the dorms. Make sure to ask students. They will be honest with you - they went through the same experience. While you are applying, if you want more information at that time, you should ask those questions during your interview - the interviewer is an alumni. Good luck! You are quite ahead of schedule (the app is due January 15th) so good job on that!
