How do you take GCSE if homeschooled?

Can i request to take one more GCSE?

  • So in my school English, Science, Maths and RE aren't optional and we have to take them. We also have to pursue ICT and PE however we don't have to do an actualy GCSE in these. Aswell as this, we are also allowed to pick 4 subjects to study. However, I really, really want to take five. I am a good student and I have all good grades- study skills and attitude grades included. I am in top set for everything and believe I am more than capable to handle the extra subject. I was just wondering if the school would be allowed to let me take the extra GCSE. Four really isn't many and the other four that aren't optional only equals 8, which really isn't alot of GCSE's. My parent's are willing to go in and speak to the school about this however they aren't sure whether this would be a waste of time or not. Really what I'm asking is are the school allowed to let me take another GCSE and if so, will they?

  • Answer:

I also want to take an extra GCSE since I am also choosing my options. I think they will allow you, but in your own time. As in not in lesson time. You'ed have to take classes after school or something. That's what I'm going to do hopefully for business studies.

You probably could take an extra one. But remember English is two because you have Language and Literature. Science is probably two also, with core and additional. That brings you up to ten already

I doubt it would be possible as you wouldn't have time in your timetable and the teachers wouldn't have time/ be paid to teach you the extra subject. You could always be taught it by a tutor outside of school? Im just saying it's unlikely, but I don't know your school so go ahead and ask them. By the way, you realise that for English you get 2 seperate GCSE's (language and literature) and for science you get 2/3 depending if you took double or triple. So in fact you are on track for 11 GCSE's.
