What high school and college courses should I take to become a Correctional Officer?

• I'm looking at a Correctional Officer for a career, I have got no idea what courses I should take in high school so I need some help there lol At the college im gonna go to theres a course called Protection, Security & Investigation which is designed for a job like a Correctional Officer which I'm going to take, but I was also wondering that if I take a Police Foundations course in College will that help me get a career as a Correctional Officer?

  In high school it doesn't matter because it is all general education. The main thing is get your high school diploma. In college take courses tailored toward criminal justice, police science, or administration of justice. Any of these will be helpful for a correctional officer career. Don't forget you basic education classes like writing and math too. Its essential that correctional officer be able to read and write reports in English clearly. Basic math skills are required as well. There is no need to be well rounded for say, maintain a focus of police classes with a few elective in other topics. Also consider getting hands on experience as well. There are some private security companies that provide detention services but these are rare. I would recommend you work part time doing private security, preferebly at a location that you get public contact, such as a shopping mall or hospital. In these jobs you will learn customer service, report writing, patrol procedures, and how to handle situations where you are in a position of authority. All of this will come in play when you apply to be a correctional officer. You will need both the educational and work experience background to get hired.
