How are private schools different than public schools?
-
Other than one being funded by taxes and the other by tuition. What are the kids like? Are there cliques? Is private school less depressing and dehumanizing? Less prison-like? How are the teachers? What are classes like? Is everyone forced to play sports and be in clubs? I'm just wondering because I went to public high school and even though it was a very good one that sends almost all its students to college, a lot of the students were still very immature and mean. Cliques were the rule. If you wanted to do something, you had to go after it. Furthermore, it honestly felt like a prison because we weren't allowed to roam the halls without a formal pass and couldn't leave campus (there were security guards everywhere). I'm asking because my current boyfriend went to a prestigious private high school in new England and on top of being a very good student, he was involved in multiple sports (football, wrestling, etc), the theater program, woodworking, etc. So I'm wondering if he was just a very involved student because its in his nature, of if private schools kinda make all their students do this? Its really funny how he actually enjoyed high school and regularly donates money to them, whereas I dreaded going every single day and couldn't give a crap about mine.

Answer:
What are the kids like? - They were basically the same. Although in public schools there are many more students that are apathetic toward school and don't try with their work. Are there cliques? - YES!! It was basically the same as public school, sometime the private school cliques were even nastier. Depending on the area and what clique you are talking about. I am not saying every place was like this but mine was. Is private school less depressing and dehumanizing? Less prison-like? - My private school was prison-like the rules were basically the same as public school but the ways they enforced them were different (not detention, it was like cleaning the desks, or sweeping) , I went to the public school, the first year I was there the rules were not too strict, and then the next year it was insane. There were teachers/security people sitting in front of the bathroom, you had to sign a book with your name ID number, teacher and time. IF you were taking to long the teacher or whoever it was would come in to see what was going on. There was also these special pass books, it was with carbon paper so there was an extra yellow copy kept in the book and at the end of the week if you went to the bathroom or out of class more then 3/4 times you got saturday school. OH yeah and if you spend lets say 10 minutes in the bathroom you have to come after school for 15 minutes to make up the time. How are the teachers? What are classes like? - The teachers were ehh I guess the same, there was some good and some bad. Classes at private school were more vigorous and there were more electives. Is everyone forced to play sports and be in clubs? - Private- Not really, it was just frowned upon if you didn't. Most people did though because there were tons of fun things to do. - Public- They did not care at ALL. They could care less what you did with your extra curricular time. And in both places there were formal hall passes every year.

In private school you are taught by an education professional. In public school you are taught by a state govt. employee.

I currently go to public school, but went to private school. it feels more like a huge family because EVERYONE knows everyone! (parents are closer also) There are more family oriented "get togethers" at private school. The private school I went to everyone did sports. I ended up trying every sport because i guess everyone was, but at public school most kids aren't as involved and aren't as motivated. I can honestly say private school has higher standards as far as dress code, schoolwork, and behavior. They just expect you to care about school, whereas at public school most kids could care less whether they fail. Private school was more clique-ee, but there is less fights and the drama is the same at either school. It didn't seem depressing, but it was more challenging. The teachers are more formal than at public because they don't joke around a lot or cuss. They care to your needs more personally than at public school and care about you more. No one is forced to be in clubs or sports but it is more common for someone at a private school to be involved in sports/clubs. hope i helped!
Wonderous.
I go to a public school in England and cliques are the rule here. It's not ordered in the jocks, cheerleaders, ect here. There is only 3 cliques and each clique sticks to themselves and hardly know other people's names out of their clique. "the populars, the averages, the geeks" We can't roam the halls through break or lunch time but we can stop and have a chat in them between lesson periods. We don't have 'hall passes' here either. Prefects usually guard the halls and tells everybody to get out except the teachers. The teachers are friendly and the majority actually care about our education. Some however are in the profession just for the cash and for the retirement money. We don't get pushed into joining after school activities but we have the choice and we can start our own clubs if we'd like to. You can even play football and basketball in the courts at lunch time which most of the boys join in. We also have an indoor swimming pool which kids can bring their swimming costumes and go for swim at lunch time. We have a range of different subjects including English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, RE, Futures, Form, History, Geography, Music, Business Studies, Social Care, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Citizenship, ART, Graphics, Woodwork, Textiles, Cookery and we can obviously take more options during gcse and A - level. Our school gets majorities of B's to C's in final exams and some A-A*. We are not 'pushed' to go to college either.
