WHat is genetic Identification?

Hello, in the British educational system, is there a system of pupils' identification with numbers? What is?

  • the accurate name of pupils' system of identification in the UK? Is it called the "student's identification number"? Is there an acronym for it? Thanks for your help. Merry Xtmas.

  • Answer:

There are 3 numbers that might be what you are after. Firstly, the Unique Pupil Number (UPN) is allocated to a child when they first start in a state school and it moved with them when they change schools. However, if they do to a private school they will not get one. It starts with a letter and then has about 10 digits. Secondly, the Unique Candidate Identifier (UCI). This is allocated by the school where a student is first entered for GCSEs or A levels. It should move with them so that any exams the student takes are tied to this number even if he/she changes his/her name. It is 12 digits and then a letter long. Thirdly, the Unique Learner Number (ULN). This is centrally allocated by the Learner records service when you reach 14 and is designed to tie all the qualifications you take together (not just GCSEs and A levels). It should follow you round. They have only been around for 2-3 years and there are some problems with students being allocated more than 1 number. It is about 10 digits long.
