How to get into veterinary school?

I'm still in high school going into grade 12 and I want to pursue Veterinary Medicine, how do I get there?

• I live in Toronto, Canada and currently in grade 11. I'm very curious about the steps on how to be a Veterinarian. I'm planning to volunteer at animal shelters near my area this summer or even if I'm lucky-- a vet clinic or hospital would be nice. I know that here in Ontario, there's only one vet school and that is at OVC (Ontario Veterinary College) at Guelph. Furthermore, I'm planning to go to UofT because it's close to home. However, from the information I got at: electronicinfo.ca, I don't think UofT offers animal sciences? I know there's a program at UofT called Lifescience but isn't that for humans? I'm also thinking of going to McMasters or University of Guelph but they are both a 3 hr train ride from where I live, and the grades they look for... Anyway, how did you guys pursue being a veterinarian student at a vet school or professionally working as a vet? Did you start shadowing vets-- through co-op in high school, volunteering animal shelters, etc.? How? What did you guys put in your resumes and cover letters? Ahhh. Please help! & thank you so much!

  Firstly, it's great that you want to be a Vet! It's great to do volunteering work. But after you graduate, you'll probably shawdow some vet as part of your course. Good Luck!
