PLEASE help me decide which work placement to go to (yr 10 work experience)no one answered :(?

Firstly - i know its my choice in the end.. but im looking for opinions here!:) ok, so i want to be an infants teacher when in leave school. so for my year 10 work experience (a placement in july for 2weeks) i picked child care, i cant choose betwwen two placements. ok placement one; "working in a nursery for two weeks, supporting the children in development and learning and general housekeeping. there are two placements.. one student will be working with the pussycats (2-3) and one will be working with owls (3-4)" now that nursery is the one i went to and its not a proper building specifically for a nursery, its a rented hall. One girl has already taken one spot a and she picked the pussycats (the ones i wanted to work with) so ill be with the owls! the hours for this one are 8:45-3:30 (i live near enough next to this nursery) placement two "working in a nursery for two weeks, three placements, you will be shadowing the teacher and assisting children in outdoor play and activities. This placement is for academic students who want to go onto high level teaching. it would be nice if the student had a skill that we could incorporate into there time her, art music or drama (i have none of those ut i am academic as i am predicted as and bs.!!) there will be a short induction before you start. one student will be working with under 3's and two with over three's" the hours for that are 8:30-4:30 (i live 30 minutes away from this one) also placement two is a nursery not a rented building like placement one. Placement two is more scheduled, specific things are at set timess,. where as placement one is more relaxed. which one in your opinion should i go for and why,? thanks so much - sarah!:)xx BQ: What activities do 3-4year olds like? whats the difference really between 2-3 and 3-4 year olds?i only have experience with a 2 year old (i babysit my 2yr old cousin) SORRY ITS SO LONG THANKS AGAIN!:) ANY HELP APPRECIATE

Answer:
Definitely go for the second option. This will give you a better insight into what teaching is like and it sounds more structured. It will be challenging but shadowing the teacher is very beneficial. If you want to become an infant teacher, placement two will give you a better representation into what it will be like. It doesn't matter if you can't play an instrument or act, so long as you show an interest in one of them, they will welcome the fact that you are enthusiastic. Best of luck with your placement!! I hope you enjoy it :)

If you want to be a teacher you should do placement 2 - it will be harder but it sounds like they will give you more guidance and more hands-on experience. 2-3 year olds and 3-4 year olds are all very young and will do a lot of learning through play, hand painting, using sand and water etc, although the 2-3 yo's will be noticeably more 'baby-like' and will have less developed language abilities. The nursery for placement 2 sounds quite structured, and will probably have set times every day such as snack time, story time, outdoor time etc, although this all depends on the ethos of the nursery. Why don't you look it up if it has a website and see what you think? Good luck! :)
