Should I take triple science or stick with core?
-
So I am about to take my options and have already decided to take catering, spanish and history along with all my mandatory subjects but need to choose one more optional subject. I am thinking of choosing triple science but want some peoples opinions. I am in set 2 for science (one down from the top set) so there is a 50% chance even if I do choose I wont get on it anyway as there is limited places so would it be best to choose a different optional subject (im not sure which) and just take core science? I am thinking about taking a science at a-level (biology) as well and have been told science is a lot easier at a-level if you have taken triple science not just core, is this true? If it is how big is the jump and would it be really difficult with only core science? Also how much more study time is involved (how many more hours in lessons, how much longer revising etc.)? Any information/opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Answer:
I used to do triple science up until this year when I decided to move down into set 1 additional. In order to be able to succeed at triple science you need to be very devoted to the subject, and also very knowledgeable about it. It's not an easy ride, I found that the teachers will really push you when doing triple science so if you're not good under pressure, then I highly recommend you don't take it. It will look good on applications for six-form's and university, but unless you know you're going to get like an A or an A* in Biology, Chemistry and Physics I don't see the point in putting yourself under all the stress to get average grades. At my school we have 6 science lessons a week. You'd be spending a lot of time revising as there are more topics/exam work to cover then if you wasn't doing triple. I would speak to your current science teacher about whether they would recommend you taking it, they'll know you better then I do and I think they'll be able to guide you in the best direction. Good luck :)

I take triple award and it's very stressful but in the long run university's look for it on applications. I think it's worth it.

If you take A level biology then chemistry backgrond would be best. Ask your science teacher if they think you could manage triple science.
