How important is it to take chemistry in high school?

Would it be too hard to take AP Chemistry and AP Biology junior year of high school? ?

  • I'm picking my classes for next year and I'm not sure if I should take AP chemistry and AP biology the same year. Alot of people tell me it would be too hard and it would be too much work to handle. Is that true? Should I just take their word for it or do my own thing and take the classes anyway?

    If you like the classes, and are pretty good at the subject, then you should be able to handle it no problem. Im a junior and im taking AP chem and physics. I dont study at all and the work is super easy for me since the concepts are really easy for me. Currently have an A in both, but mid-B's last semester. As long as you like it, it should be easy! :b although bio is a lot of reading (ive heard) :o

It mainly depends on what other classes your taking, and most specifically the teacher that teaches those subject. For example, at my school, AP Biology used to be a joke class. Then we had a teacher switch, and it became one of the hardest classes in the school. Do you really enjoy those two subjects? AP classes are significantly easier if you have a genuine interest. If you love science, go for it. Don't let other people scare you. It's never as bad as they say it is. But, if you've never done AP before, you may want to start with only one. Are you particularly strong in math and reading? AP Chemistry and AP Biology are pretty different. AP Chemistry requires a strong math base, and AP Biology requires a strong reading base (I'm taking AP Biology right now and there's absolutely no math involved whatsoever. The AP Chem kids on the other hand are always with a calculator in hand). But in conclusion, the biggest factor in your workload is the teacher who teaches it. So talk to former students and the teachers of these subjects for the best information.
