Volunteering at a hospital?

Volunteering at a Children's Hospital?

  • This summer, I want to volunteer at the local children's hospital. I meet the age requirements, and I need some volunteer hours. I also am considering the medical field. What do you do on an average day of volunteering at a hospital?

  • Answer:

I just finished volunteering at a children's hospital. There are a lot of different jobs that you can choose, but it just depends on the hospital. Some jobs require that you be at least 18. Some jobs there is patient contact and other jobs there isn't. If you want to volunteer this summer, it would be a good idea to get started on the application process now. There are a limited number of people that can volunteer and the positions usually fill up fast. If you go to the hospital's website there should be a section about volunteering and the steps needed to get started. There might even be job descriptions. I worked in the emergency department. Occasionally we were able to transport patients to get an x-ray, ct, or ultrasound. There was a lot of making sure things were stocked in front of the rooms including isolation gowns, gloves and masks. We washed toys, put together ID bands, got IV poles and pumps when they were low, made coffee, put dvd/vhs movies on, brought patients and their parents drinks....etc.
