Do I need to take Physics in high school to become a Nurse?
-
I'm planning on becoming a Registered Nurse first. I'm going into a nursing program straight away after graduating high school. I am currently in gr 11, taking physics, bio, and chem. i want to take only 2 sciences though. i'm doing really badly in physics.. and i hate it. if i only take chem and bio is it still okay or do i really have to take all three? after becoming a RN after 2 years or so i'm going to study again to become a nurse practitioner. that's the plan.

Answer:
You definitely don't need to take Physics in high school to become a nurse....Just think of all the people who decide to become nurses later in life. I highly doubt that they all took physics in high school. I'm a nurse, and I never took physics. You will probably be fine taking just chemistry and biology, but I'd recommend taking multiple years of each....have you considered APs? Also, if your school offers physiology or anatomy, take it!! That would be much more useful than physics. All the same, I still think physics is an important science, and it can be relevant to the nursing career. Many nursing schools require students to take physics classes. Plus, nursing schools are becoming increasingly competitive, so it's impressive to show these schools that you challenged yourself by taking physics. In short: while you don't need to take physics to become a nurse, it really couldn't hurt. If you truly are struggling to do well in physics, drop it and take a different science. But if you think there might be hope that you can improve, hang in there! Good luck to you, and I'm sure you will make an excellent nurse one day.

You have to take 3 years of science in high school. It is mandated by law in order to graduate.

It really doesn't matter because you would have to take Physics in College if they require it for you to be a nurse
It's going to depend on your state and your college. Physics is essentially algebra, though, and you'll probably be glad of the background when you do start your college classes. I would see physics through to the end.
