Why is Literature so important to the English curriculum?

GCSE english literature?

  • Hello, here is the situation: English is not my native language. I am very academic expect my English, but I feel extremely nervous in any exams. My ambition is to become a stock broker as I was fascinated by it when I was a kid(working in financial area). I know that good English is needed, that's why I did try my very hardest and managed a B in my GCSE English language.(I was so happy because it is minimum for oxbridge and LSE). But there is also English Literature as well and everyone in my school is studying it, I personally can speak and write better English that most of the English-Speakers in my school. But this exam is really getting on my nerve and I have absolute no intention carrying on doing it(I give up during the lesson and have no idea what we're doing, plus the students in my (sat 3) are retar***), it will only get me a D or C which will only decrease my A/A* to total ratio. because I didn't manage to get straight A* in science so I planned to drop English Literature. The question is: I have absolutely no problem of speaking good English and interpreting it well. Also I will not need literature skill in my career, so does it matter to drop english Literature???????

  • Answer:

Hi jack. As long as you have English Language, then you can drop the literature and good luck to you. Stock brokers do better when good on maths and economics anyway. Cheers, Steve.
