International Baccalaureate program help?

Help with International Baccalaureate program!?

  • Hi everyone, so I'm currently in grade 10 and this is my first year doing IB(International Baccalaureate) but i'm technically only in the pre-IB at Cardinal Carter CHS in Aurora, Canada. This isn't my home school and I'm not catholic, the only reason I am going there is because of this program. Now, I need to make a decision regarding if I will continue with IB next year and for grade 12, or if I will return back to my old school. For most of first semester I wanted to go back really badly, but now I'm not really that sure. I don't really like the school much, but for some reason I don't want to leave as badly anymore. Anyways, the academic aspect of it, my thoughts/questions are: - you get no freedom with courses and i'm just wondering if people who have done ib/completed academic programs in high school think it is important to explore different subjects of interest to help with course selection in university or even as prerequisites. - if you are an ib student, would you have an advantage over a regular student who has a higher mark then you (say you have an 85% and they have a 92%) - does the "ib status" really makes a difference when applying to university/ does it increase your chance of scholarships -does it make it easier/increase your chances of being accepted to international schools - we were told that some students who complete ib are given first year university credit so they can skip the entire first year, does anyone know if this is true? -lastly, is anyone else familiar with ib and can give me some insight about its benefits/disadvantages from someone who has actually done it? thanks so much!

  • Answer:

I myself am an IB student. This program tortures the students, like you need to make +/- 2000 words of essay every month, excluding all the homework and lab reports. though many alumni said that this thing really help you in the university, even if you don't have a really good grade. some of the alumni i know didn't even pass the IB program and yet they got accepted in many universities around the globe, pretty good ones. one thing to be extremely paid attention to, is the IB final exam. the score of the exam will be responsible for 75% of your final grade, and that's crazy. so, it's up to you. it's a double edged sword. all of the IB alumni i know don't have any problem in writing essays, unlike the regular alumni. hope this help you. Gb.. :D
