How can I concentrate on my revision for exams?

When should I begin my revision for my exams, and how should I revise for them?

  • It's early March, I've just finished my March examinations: Additional Chemistry and Maths Module 2. I'm currently in Year 11 - I have as of today received my examination time-table for June 2011; where I have all of my final module exams and possible re-sits, in case my Chemistry is not an A* - B. What I would like to know is when should I begin my revision, should I make a time-table and how? And how should I revise, as I have 12 exams - and I want to get ALL A's - as I'm going to a Grammar school for sixth-form next year to study Biology, Chemistry, Geography and Psychology. Another thing I would like to ask is that I'm currently studying "triple-science" (Edexcel GCSE 360 Science) - and I have been entered for the "triple"/extension exams in June which will break my Additional and Core into Biology, Chemistry and Physics - but if I do bad in these exams, it could drop my grades from A's to B's or even C's. Is it worth the risk - as I'm allowed to cancel these exams on the 1st of April. Thanks for your help, it will be most appreciated! :)

  • Answer:

The sooner you start revising, the better! I done my GCSE's last year and i regret not doing my revision properly. Don't go too heavy on revising yet because it'll get too much and you may stress over nothing. For now i'd only do some. Then do more in April/May, then in June/July/August (whenever your exams are) don't revise too much the night before your exam, it'll stress you out and you might get over loaded. If your school offers any after school revision classes, go to as many as possible because they do really help. Also if you're not sure about something in a lesson be sure you ask about it. I hated doing that because i felt stupid, but honestly it's worth it in the long run.. Throughout March, try to do half an hour for every subject a week. so in total in march you'll have done 2 hours for each subject. April, do an hour a day on a subject you find hard. But only do 4 days a week, then have 3 days off. May is when you need to do most revision. Then June just do the finishing touches! For the revision technique, if it's a information subject like psychology, history, geography etc. Make posters and put them on your bedroom walls. Re-write notes. Do practice exam questions. go on revision sites, bbc bitesize, s-cool, mymaths. And most of all, don't stress about them because i'm sure you'll do fine! Good luck!
