How do music and science relate?

What are my chances of getting into IMSA (Illinois Math and Science Academy)?

  • I am wondering about my chances of getting into IMSA?! I am a 9th grader who lives in central Illinois in Macon county. My grades for 1st semester in high school were fantastic! My average was about a 99.3 and a GPA over 4, my other 7th and 8th grade grades were all As except one B+ or B in 7th grade in Social Studies. All my teachers like me, except one so my evaluations are okay-ish. I haven't started my essays, but I have a good idea of it. My SAT scores were math: around 650-670 & Reading: 590-600 ( I know, they're not the greatest) For awards, I've got lots of them :D. -2 time national champion in Tae Kwon Do & other numerous awards relating to it -Principal Awards in 8th grade, which is pretty much like valedictorian -Piano Scholarship if that counts? haha & I am in the process of finishing my level 9 AIM exam for piano, which is pretty much a college level theory test -other awards relating to music such as St. Cecilia Award from Jr. High School -An award for school bowl for like 3rd most toss ups in a season -didn't have any other math/science awards that relate since the only math/science extra curricular my school could provide was Scholastic Bowl, but my friend and I are thinking of starting a Mathletes extra curricular for the future generations of our school :D I went to SEAMS & I think the teachers liked me, but we haven't received our evaluations yet. I play the piano, violin, and oboe The sports I do are tae kwon do, tennis, soccer, scholastic bowl (considered a sport! haha), occasionally golf but I couldn't do it this year because of soccer, Cross Country but also couldn't do it because of soccer I don't really know what else to put so yea oh, and would my principal award count as a math/science thing or no? okeydokey, I don't know what else to ask so yeah THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!!!!

  • Answer:

Just saw this question and decided to answer it, haha. I'm a freshman too, I applied last year, hoping to get deferred (I didn't take a high school science class, so they wouldn't accept me to skip my 9th grade year) to attend during my sophomore year. Fortunately, I did, so I'm going next year. In my opinion, it looks like you have enough awards and extracurriculars. You can look on Wikipedia for the average SAT scores for incoming classes. Your scores seem to be around the average range I think. I feel like grades matter a decent amount since they show that you work hard in school. I'm not an expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure a lot of it depends on who else is applying in your area, because they accept like, a certain amount from different regions I think. Seems like it would make sense. Good luck
