How hard is it to double major in English and Biology?

Is Honors English and Biology REALLY hard?

  • I'm going to high school soon, and I was wondering if Honors English and Bio is hard? I know honors is suppose to be hard, but is it like... extremely hard? I talked to my counselor, and he said Honors Biology is just a lot of reading... and to be honest, I like to learn about life and stuff. But I don't know about Honors English. I'm deciding whether to do the appeals test or not, but I just want to challenge myself, but not to the point where I will be stressed everyday. Also, I'm in Honors Spanish. Anyways, for those out there who are in Honors English and/or Biology, please answer! I want to know the experiences that you have. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Honors English may mean a lot of reading, same with Spanish. Honestly, it depends on the teacher. Some teachers are great and even if you've previously hated a subject you can come to love it. Some are awful and make you hate it more. If you have the option of changing your schedule after a few days after you can get a feel for what the classes are like, I'd do that. It's really the only way you'll be able to tell what expectations the teacher has for your class, and the only way you'll be able to tell whether or not it's too challenging for you. Honors classes are not that bad, as long as you're prepared to handle the work that accompanies them.

Well I consider myself a fairly bright student. I have taken all honors and AP courses, never will you ever catch me in a CP/standard course. Honors English and Biology are both easy courses. Honors English is so easy, all you do is read and analyze classic novels (to kill a mockingbird, Romeo and Juliet) You work on forming sentences and sentence structure. Honors Biology is also very easy. Its basically common sense. I mean nothing too hard. The hardest part will most likely be cell theory and genetics but it is manageable.

It will be challenging! But if you study, and you MUST study, and like challenging yourself and learning.........you'll be fine. I'm in Honors English and I love it. We do a lot more reading than the regular English classes do, in fact that's all we do. In regular English, they do grammar and how to write papers and read a few books. gets kind of boring. At least that's how my high school does it, I doubt you'll be going to the same high school as I do.

I've been taking honors classes all through high school. So let me tell you, Honors English and Bio are probably the easiest classes you're going to take. In English it's just a lot of reading (Romeo and Juliet, memoirs, plays, and other literature). You analyze a lot and write many essays. But it really isn't that complicated. Bio is VERY easy. Some parts might be difficult, but unlike chemistry and physics, it's pretty straight forward. Just study and review your notes, and you'll pass. For the tests and quizzes, it depends on your teacher. I don't really remember having tests for English, but we did have a lot of essays to write which she graded, and in a way they counted as test scores.
