How do I write up a geography report?

Should I do Geography or History?

  • I'm in Year 9 and for my optional GCSEs I have to choose at least one humanity, but I've already chosen three of my options, so now I'm stuck between Geography and History. I do okay in both (usually 2s or 3s on my report card), though neither are at all my strongest subject. I tend to slightly better in History because I can write long and descriptive essays (which we've so far not needed to do for Geography). I much prefer Geography to History, and my other strong areas are Languages, Sciences and Maths if this makes a difference. Any ideas?

Well it depends on whether you're better at one subject and if you enjoy one more. The fact that you have chosen a Humanity is great, and combined with a Language and the core Subjects you'll earn an English Baccalaureate - http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/teachingandlearning/qualifications/englishbac/a0075975/theenglishbaccalaureate Which is what Universities will look at as of January 2012. Also, it looks good on your CV. I've taken GCSE History and it's 'alright', it's interesting, just with my boring-ish teacher, it drags on (we have a double lesson tommorow!:[). And it's not like the sterotypical History: the wars etc. It's more modern History: Nazi Germany, Weimar Republic(german government) and medecine through time (which is so boring). However, it's a very good qualification to have and is very respected as a qualification.(In my opinion - more than geography) On the otherhand is geography, I didn't take it, but people say it's 'alright' too. Their teacher is strict but quite nice. But they have to do lots of work, like lots(which is expected). So, I would say, do either, it's still a great choice. Good Luck!

I would definitely go for Geography! When you do GCSE it's much better to go for subjects you enjoy as well as subjects you are good at. I do both History and Geography and I enjoy them both, but I prefer Geography. In my opinion, Geography is also easier to get a better grade in. If I were you definitely go for what you enjoy more as that is just as important as what you're good at. :) Plus, you'll be more motivated if you are better at a subject.

I think you should take history because it is much more interesting. I personally find history easier and i take it. Whereas my sister takes geography and she struggles quite a lot with the work. But, I think geography would be more useful as you learn about economics, different cultures, how to use maps and really useful information if you want to explore the world. Overall, I suggest taking history.

Well, just do what you feel comfortable doing. If you like Geography better, then do it! No point in choosing History if you don't lik it as much. Plus, if you want to go to University, Geograhpy can be used as a science OR an art, unlike history is an art. But it's up to you. Just don't give in to pressure! Hope this helps xx

Do geography if you prefer it, I'm taking history cos i'm really good at it and enjoy it but if you're about the same on both then just take the one you enjoy! :)

Since you've done better in History, go with that.
