I've created a study schedule. How long might it take for it to become a habit?
-
My friend told me today she wanted to break her habit of complaining, and said people said it takes 21 takes to start/break a habit. Is this true? I have an after school study schedule that I'm going to follow five days a week for now on. On weekends, I'll read and study for two hours starting at nine (I'm an early riser). How long will it take for this to become a habit? How can I stay motivated? I decided to make it my 14th birthday resolution (it was yesterday) and I want to stick to it to be ready for high school!

Yes,it's true, there are 21 days before you can make a habit! I think that you have a wonderful plan for the future and ought to stick to it. You can stay motivated by the knowledge that after these two study hours every weekend you can go and do something you don't usually do and is a privilege to you!

Nice job and happy B-day. Watching your grades stay high is how you stay motivated, A few suggestions on studying: 1) Give yourself 30 minutes down time when first getting home from school to de-stress and let all the brain cells realign. Have some milk and cookies or a Coke, etc., whatever, Just think about the day without dwelling on your homework. Ask your mom how tough her day is going to be now that you're home, etc. Then kiss her and see if that get's you an extra cookie. : 2) Start your study each day (Sun through Thursday nights) with your most difficult subject first and end with your easiest. That way when you finish each subject you know that the ones in front of you are easier. That will help a lot. And you will have a real sense of accomplishment, too. 3) Do not study on Friday night or Saturday. You deserve a life. Start on Sunday at whatever is a good time for you. 4) An exception for Saturday might be to do some Internet research on an essay if one is coming up. That's a low stress job and can be fun if you have chosen the topic properly. It will almost not seem like homework. And that's the mood you want to be in when doing research. If you really feel motivated, do what would be your first Sunday night subject's homework (How sick can one get?) Good luck. I predict much success for you since you're even thinking about this.
