How does the American School System Work?

  • I'm just curious!! Here in Ireland, you start Primary School at 4 or 5 its called junior infants. Then there is senior infants, first class, second class, third class, fourth class, fifth class finally sixth class (12 or 13 years) The you go to Secondary School: There is - 1st Year (usually start around 13 years) 2nd Year 3rd Year 4th year/ Transition Year 5th Year 6th Year In Some Secondary schools, Transition Year is optional and in other schools, there is just 1st - 5th year!! The School System here is so straight forward......i find it hard to understand the School system in America. Could you explain it for me?!? Thanks
