The "Día de los Muertos" or better "Día de los Difuntos" (normally at Nov 2), is the equivalent to the Memorial day. Nothing to do with something like Halloween. Is a day to think in the belowed person that had passed away and to visit the cemeteries.

Different day, different culture. I love day of the dead, Nov. 2nd, in Mexico. Everyone goes to the panteon and has a great party, with food and drinks and reunions. A really neat day. They cover the tombs with flowers, and keep candles going all day. You see people you haven't seen in years. My wife went a few years ago to her first one in maybe 40 years in her home village, and all sorts of people came running up to ask her where she'd been and why she was back. it was touching to me just to watch it. Some kids in Mexico are trying to start hallowe'en, with trick or treat except they ask for money. We are teaching the adults we give candy here...
