I want to drop out of college?
-
I know this is long but i truly need help so please read? For the past 6 months I have moved around 8 times, lost my apartments, my family, and money, jobs. A couple weeks ago I had an apartment with a girl I didn't know everything was good until she decided to kick me out one day (for literally no reason, and I am heartbroken and lost) now I'm staying with a friend. I have been through hell and back, and back to hell again and I feel so worn out and so sad and depressed (that I l internally am starting to fall apart as I write this), I can't take it anymore. Ontop of all this stuff I have to worry about school which I can't afford proper books for but i already took out a huge loan to pay for the tuition and an apartment (which I lost) .... That's the only thing keeping me from dropping out. I want to drop out and work full time because I don't want to bother my friend and her parents by staying here too long (I've already stayed with them once before too), but if I drop out I am more than afraid that once I do and start working full time, my school loan people will want their money and send me bills and I'll be paying for those instead of saving for an apartment and just the thought of that makes me feel trapped, because if I stay I know I won't concentrate on school like I should because I'm so lost and overwhelmed with everything and stressed out, and if I do, I still won't have money because it will all go to them. I took out 10,000 all together I think. I just don't know what to do. I don't want to just coast through my classes and just get d's or c's because that will look bad if I want to transfer to a four year and on top of that I'm not even sure what I want to be yet! I'm just waisting money and taking random classes! What should I even do. I can't talk to anyone I know about this because everyone will tell me (without thoroughly thinking it over) to stay in school.

This is what I would do if I were you... Drop out. You need to focus on yourself and your emotions and living situation. Even if you only withdraw from this semester, you can go back next semester and since it will be less than 6 months that you were out of school (August is 5 months away) they won't even be asking for you to pay back your loans yet (since there is a 6-month grace period). During that time you take off, you can work full time and save up money, and figure out what you want to do with school in your spare time. If you decide to not go back, you'll have some money saved up for loan payments. If you decide to go back, hopefully you have had some time by then to figure out a good schedule (maybe even just one or two classes instead of full-time school) so you can work as well and still be making money. Sounds to me that either way, you're wasting this semester because either you're going to drop out or fail out because of your situations since you're not focused right now. It's not the end of the world if you drop out, it'll ease your mind a little bit. Just remember even if you withdraw from your classes this semester you can always go back later if you want to.

I think stay in school if at all possible. Just wondering why/how you lost your family? I would hope they would be your biggest supporters but reality is that sometimes things don't work that way. I think you should try to mend fences with them, even if you are not living with them. That has to be a huge stress on you. Can you move back with them? Or, is there any chance that you could talk to the people you are living with now? Maybe they would let you stay until you are done school. If they do, be sure you can contribute to the living arrangements - there are no free rides. Do as much as you can to help out - wash dishes, clean a bathroom, clean up after yourself, cook meals, etc. I hope you are already doing this. Make yourself an asset to their lives and I would think they would enjoy having you there. Have a plan for your future to present to them. Show them how serious you are about wanting to make this work. Get a part time job and work as much as you can without interfering with school work. Contribute to the house financially if you can. Bring home bread & milk when you can. Maybe an occasional gift like some flowers or a box of donuts. You are right - if you drop out, you will probably never go back. My daughter did exactly the same thing. For some reason she felt she had to have a car, her own apartment and all new furniture on top of tuition in order to be able to go to school. She took a $10,000 loan, quit her full time job and it ended up that she couldn't go to school because she spent all the money just getting ready to be able to go. I tried to give her some advice but she didn't listen. We had a definite difference of opinion and some heated words. Anyway, She ended up getting a waitress job and moving back home to try to pay everything off. The furniture fell apart, the car only lasted a few years and she still owed around $5,000. Her husband paid off the balance a few years later and she has never returned to school. Take a deep breathe and make a plan to follow. If you make a plan or map to follow, it will keep you focused on the end result that you want to achieve. Do the schools have student guidance/assistance program?
