Is Computer Information Systems a good major for me?

What is a more marketable degree, Computer Science or Information Systems?

• I am at the point to where I need to pick a course of study. My local CC has a program in Computer Information Systems and Computer Network Technology. The University I want to go to has bothe Information Systems and Computer Science. So now my question, which program at the CC is best to go to the uni with? What degree at the uni is more marketable for me to get a job with. I really want to be a network engineer. People have told me both degrees will work for that occupation but not whether one is stronger than the other for that particular job. Thanks in advance.

  Both are extremely marketable degrees, especially since they both are technology related. Although Computer Science(CS) degrees tend to be more popular and sometimes more valuable, Computer Science is more theoretical and requires more upper-level math and programming courses, which sometimes makes it longer to obtain the degree. I was a Computer Science major and changed to Information Technology for that reason. Information Systems(IS) degrees tend to be shorter and usually requires one to take courses that revolve around careers that someone would have in the field, such as Database Systems, Networking and telecommunications, Computer forensics, User center Design, etc depending on the University. If you want to be a network engineer I would recommend Information Systems because a course similar to it would more likely be in a Information Systems degree program than an Computer Science program. If you like math and programming then go for computer science. If you like to learn more about how computer and technology are used in the business world and take courses based on those careers then I would say Information Systems. Either way,as I said before both degrees are marketable so no worries. Best of luck to you in your studies!
