Boarding school, or drop out?
-
I'm currently in my first year of A levels, however it isn't going well. Since going back in September, I've just had no motivation to do work. I dread getting up for school; so, most days I'm late, and when I'm in school I spend most of my time either day dreaming (in lessons), or listening to my i-pod (break times, frees etc). I don't really talk to people. So far, I've already had to drop an A level, so now only do 3. It's not that I'm thick, I got 10 A-C GCSE's, the teachers keep telling me I'm an A* pupil, but I have NO motivation. I have A S exams next week, and have done no revisions what so ever. Any way, my mum and I have spoken about boarding school. We both think it would be best, and is something I like the idea of. BUT, I have two dogs. If I move away, my mum wont physically be able to look after them. Stupid as it sounds, these two are my best friends, and I couldn't get rid of them. Are there any boarding schools in the UK that allows at least one dog? I know there are equine boarding schools, but what about canine? The other option, is to drop out now, re do some GCSE's to get them all up to A's, and then restart A S's next September. I'm a little lost right now, and looking for any information or 'stories' on people who have boarded, and whether or no there are any that allow pets?

Answer:
I am in my first year of AS and have been at boarding school since i was 13. i also feel very little motivation for my work and my report shows that, so im not sure that's the answer cos being around other people your age shows how other lazy people procrastinate and distracts you. i find this happens a lot. as far as i am aware there are no such schools which would allow dogs because they require more care including walks, which is of course your reason. i would NOT advise dropping out and retaking becasue that is a waste of time if your current gcses are decent, it just depends what you want to do later in life, do you want to go to uni/college? i dont think boarding is the answer as i said to your lack of motivation, beacuse i go to quite a select and pressurised school yet feel the need to rebel against this and refuse to give in to the pressure. yet if you want to go to boarding school, it is fun :)

It is really hard to answer I have no experience of boarding, I hated school and could not wait to leave, get a job and earn some money. I left school took an apprenticeship for 5 years, half way through decided I wanted to do something else. Stay on, work towards your exams and hopefully you will have more idea of what you want. Remember - 'knowledge is power'. I know that you are really into your dogs and that you could maybe consider this as a career, therefore its important that you have the knowledge that backs up your skills, don't sell yourself short! All the best - J.

I have to be honest I know nothing about boarding school but you have to be what's best for you. Boarding school might be the making of you. If your teachers think you are capable of more than you are at the moment something needs to change. Think of your future and even if you can no longer keep your dogs it won't be the end of the world. It might even encourage you to make new friends.
