Is the specialized high school test easy? ONLY ANSWER IF YOUR IN ONE!?
-
What formulas do i need to know? Is it like the state tests? What would you rate it on a level of 1-10, 10 being the hard, 1 being easy? Are the scrambled paragraphs similar to the ones on the samle test booklet? is the test similar to the sample test? I am pretty good in school. I guess you can say that I'm one of the smartest kids in the class. I would be in the top ten smartest, top eight smartest, and top five smartest kids in my class. but thats only bc my class is filled with stupid people. In seventh grade, my avg on my report card was a 96.24. In eight grade, this yr, im doing pretty good aswell, except in science, but the SHSAT is only in math and english. anyway, i don't have a tutor, because when i actually was interested about going to a Specialized highschool, it was too late. So I'm going to take thetest all by myself, just based on the sample test, no tutors, no afterschool program for the test, etc. Do you think I have a chance of getting in? I wanna go to Brooklyn Tech or Staten Island Tech, or Stuy. Please help!

Answer:
I guess the test for me was a 4. Now, don't just think that it's easy since I said that; I went to a Saturday prep school for a year for the test. (Ahh... the good 'ol days of taking mock tests and glaring at the person next to you who got 5 points higher...) And even then, it was a close shave for many. Even people who went to prep couldn't get into what they wanted (mostly Stuy.). Formulas.... you don't really have to know much in that department. Mostly calculating the areas of two-dimensional shapes like rectangles, triangles, or trapezoids if you were unlucky. (Like me. D: ) It's quite a bit more difficult than the state tests. A lot more thinking. Yea, the scrambled paragraphs are almost exactly like that. But with different words. I can guess that you can make it to Brooklyn Tech at the least. I knew people who studied for barely a week and got into there, with no help at all. But the real challenge is when you get in. You either get another placement test ( I know, we all though we were done with this!) or they look at your SHSAT grades to put you in your class. So you have to remember that before accepting. Also, you have to remember that you're going to be at a school full of people as smart as you or even better. So it might be tough. But anyway, good luck on the test! Hope to see you at Stuy!
