What do I do about my struggling in Algebra II?

  • So I've never been really good at Algebra, regardless of it being one or two. My new Algebra II teacher isn't very friendly. I've asked a lot of questions in class, and have gone in before and after school for extra help.I've tried to be proactive about this, but my teacher always acts like I'm stupid, and looks at me like I'm an idiot. I know I'm not stupid or an idiot, but he always gave me that vibe whenever I asked for help. I've given up and tried to figure it out at home like I'm supposed to, but it's not working. There's another teacher who I can go to for help. She taught me Algebra I in 9th grade, and now I have Algebra II. I could go to her before and after class for help, or should I ask my friend for help and keep trying to figure it out at home? I really need help, because my GPA is going to skydive if I don't catch up in algebra II. Thanks for reading.

  • Answer:

congratulations on your initiative to improve. teachers really appreciate that kind of stuff, although they may not show it. You may be misinterpreting your Algebra II teacher's sentiments. Check with other students to see if this teacher is cold towards them as well, and not singling you out. If you still feel uncomfortable with this teacher, by all means seek help from your Algebra I teacher. It's a lot easier to learn with someone you can trust. You can also try peer tutoring. Seek help from a classmate who's really good at math.

Do both ask for help from your old teacher and get help from your friends

well, the way i look at it, its YOUR grade, not your not-so-helpful teacher's; so do what you want and have to do to make sure your GPA doesnt go down. if your teacher isnt helpful, go ask last year's teacher. maybe your parents can help. if you need further assistance, consider study groups or tutoring. Good luck

I think you have already answered your question. Go to your teacher from last year or ask a friend who has already had algebra II or who is in it now and understands it. It sucks that your teacher is a jerk, but kudos to you for taking it upon yourself to understand this stuff.
