How to Manage the Chatty Student?

Teachers, how did you manage the student teaching?

  • I am going to begin studies soon to get my teaching license/certificate whichever you call it, and I have a question. Every program I look into, whether it is at a campus or online, requires me to do a semester of student teaching as part of the program. I have a full-time job and a family. I cannot just quit my job to do a 4-5 month student teaching requirement. How can I manage this problem. Do any of you teachers have any suggestions/comments that might give me some direction? Thanks, David

  • Answer:

I'm not sure about this. You could maybe work until you get to this part of the course, and then give up. I would try talking to one of the leaders of the course if you can. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Unfortunately, it will be VERY difficult for you to student teach, work, and manage a family. You will most likely Student Teach Mon-Fri, around 8 hours a day. Which means you will have little time to actually work full-time. You'd just have to talk to your employer and figure out a way to make it work. Possibly work more hours on the weekends and only work night shifts. But, you will be responsible for preparing lessons etc. so make sure you have some time for those types of things. Good luck! :) I hope it works out! Student Teaching is a blast and the best experience!
